An essay/article about: Territorial Diversion: Diversionary Theory of War and Territorial Conflict

Territorial Diversion as means of propaganda [By Jaroslav Tir, University of Georgia] (summary-ish)

                        In theory, people operating in the domain of losses are risk acceptant when they perceived that they are losing something they highly value. That is because, human, according to sociobiological and psychological studies are inherently/learned territorial creatures due to collective genetic and cultural inherent reasons. This causes the emotional bond of a man inhabitant of a certain national territory which also be easily manipulated by inside powerful factors such as the government or the media through the use of Territorial Diversion. Exempli gratia, all a man thinks that the situation is for his national safety and national aggrandizement. Media advertisement can create an aura that there is an upcoming national threat emanating from a foreign source. This artificial illusion of an inevitable menace from an external origin is created by the government through utilizing the media in order to cover up the present ills and defects, so the man’s attention would be diverted. Scrupulous leaders use this to mask incompetence and to mask the country’s flaw or to not take blame from it.

China’s spreading it’s sickness

                        China has a cough and the country around it is having a fever because of it. Bullying developing countries is easily done. Reasons are some of them are not important in the economic, security and diplomatic partners of China. Territorial disputes easily arise between countries when they can react militarily to each other, which are easily done by those who are in close proximity, especially if one country is economically and militarily greater than its rival (Levy 1998; see also Tir and Jasinski 2008). Those reasons thus, made Tibet, Philippines, Vietnam, and Malaysia... etc, China’s source of territorial diversion. China is using Territorial Diversion to mask their leader’s personal interest and country’s flaw. For example, Xi Jing Ping is pushing territorial aggression because he knows that Chinese people view the world ethnocentrically. Causing easy manipulation of their people and easy diversion of the people’s attention to their territorial disputes rather than health and sanitary issues.  Bullied countries are then forced to deal with China’s territorial aggression and thus they also feel and experience Territorial Diversion.
